Spiritual Revolution
The Human Condition
As humans living in a 3D world, Saturn mandates much of the human experience: humans have a body, time exists, gravity keeps keeps human bodies on the ground, aging exists, limitations abound, rules and regulations must be followed, death (endings). More positively, Saturn allows for : long-term results, sustainable benefits, the ability to keep things in - or out (boundaries), tangible experiences, impactful change, the ability to replicate results, meaning making, a life “worth” living. This is important to point to because it can be argued that it is largely the Saturnian limitations, restrictions, losses and endings that encourages humans to turn to a spiritual practice.
Life is challenging by design, it is the challenges that make the process of living “worth it.” In Greek and Roman Mythology it is often stated that the Gods are envious of the limitations (aka death) that humans are incarnated within because it gives their lives deeper meaning and even joy. The friction imbedded within humanity allows for much more impactful growth than an “easy ride” would allow for.
With deep purpose, the human perspective is lovingly blocked so that humans can sense God, the Universe, Gaia, etc. but they cannot come close to fully grasping it. This produces a longing for connection with the “creator” that is core to the human experience.
This relationship that humans have to the Spiritual realm is precious because there is no way to conquer or even partially understand the magnificence of what lies behind the veil. Yet, paradoxically, humans are what lies behind the veil. The construct of the Spiritual realm is overall incomprehensible to the human mind, which is what makes it so powerful and central to the human experience.
Humans need Spiritual connection in order to get them through life and explain the processes of birth, death, and the multitude of challenges in between. It can be argued that modern day Christianity (and possibly Christianity in general) as well as modern science has created a world where very little is sacred anymore. Scared meaning a connection with the wonder of the natural world, and humans interaction with the magic of the natural world. As well as story-making, partaking in ritual, and identifying meaningful patterns in order to communicate with the spirit realm.
For a very long time, humans have lived in a world where it is easy to argue that nothing is sacred anymore. But the past decade has made an effort to fill this gaping hole within the human soul with ritual, connection and curiosity.
A Search for the Sacred
There has recently been a gigantic spiritual shift in the Western world in particular, leaning away from Christianity - which has been a spiritual mainstay in Western culture for around 2000 years. While not everyone who is stepping away from Christianity is involving themselves with what is being refereed to here as the Spiritual Revolution, many are. In addition, many Christians are participating in elements of this hat I am calling here the “Spiritual Revolution”. Astrologically, this spiritual shift correlates with both Neptune in Pisces from 2011 - 2025 and Pluto in Capricorn from 2008 - 2024.
Neptune in Pisces has enveloped humans in a trance-like state, opening up people’s minds and even their souls to perspectives and experiences that most of Western Culture has long been closed off to. Christianity created a non-negotiable view on “native” and “earth-based” spiritual practices - stating that there is inherent evil in these beliefs. Hundreds of years of witch trials and other atrocities made an impact so great that generations rarely questioned these guidelines. And the dogma that marginalizes and even vilified these alternate spiritual systems was known as “Truth”. It could be argued that most who didn’t align with Christianity felt more comfortable becoming agnostic or a-spiritual. Which also aligned with the positioning of modern science, starting most pointedly with the impact of Copernicus in the 1500’s.
While the more “traditional” spiritual systems never completely left Western society, they were certainly considered taboo and existed in the shadows of society. And when Neptune entered Pisces in 2011, there was a shift in the cultural atmosphere that is both subtle and all-at-once. This shift placed the spotlight onto these long marginalized spiritual beliefs and lifted them out of obscurity. Although several of the spiritual belief systems that this article looks at have experienced resurgences at other points in history, this moment seems to have been far from a resurgence or a revival. It could be said that this past decade has ushered in a spiritual experience that is new all together, a Spiritual Revolution.
The list of spiritual practices, techniques and experiences that are being referred to include the following (but are not limited to just this list) : Yoga, Plant Medicine, Psychedelics, Ceremony of all kinds, Shadow work, Shamanism, Breath work, Meditation, Astrology, Mediumship, Acupuncture, Energy Work, Reiki, Jungian Psychology, Mythology, Hypnotherapy, Magic, Tarot, Akashic Records, Past Life Regression, Ancestral Healing, Witchcraft, Numerology, Human Design, Mindfulness, Sound Healing, Ecstatic Dance. As well as more health related topics : plant-based eating, traditionally inspired diets, uprise in natural medicines / supplements, Herbalism, Functional Medicine, holistic healing in general.
One thing that many of these spiritual practices have in common is that they are rooted in past traditions. While Neptune and Pisces are not necessarily concerned with the past or traditions, they are concerned with openness and inclusivity. There is an interest in all of the options that are available to humans, a holistic approach. There is a deep curiosity, and maybe even a need for changeability or variety. There is an interest in the full picture, the all-inclusive view.
In addition, both Neptune and Pisces are concerned with what is in the liminal space, that which is intangible and even indescribable. What is on the other side of the proverbial vail. That is why interest in the subconscious, the dreamscape, the psychedelic experience as well as the alternate reality that ceremony can provide has been so alluring.
In addition, both Neptune and Pisces are interested in healing and health in general. At a moment when health ailments are becoming ever more prominent in the world, part of the appeal of these spiritual practices is their holistic approach to health and healing. Neptune and Pisces are specifically associated with the immune system and hard to diagnose disease in general, as well as mental health. It is no accident that as humans face one of the greatest health epidemics in history they turn to these spiritual means. It is important to address mind, body and spirit.
Furthermore, both Neptune and Pisces are associated with the dream and the nightmare. Simultaneously illustrating the ideal and the potential shadow-side of these archetypes. Disillusionment, deception, blind-faith, confusion and disappointment are all central to the Neptune-Pisces archetypes. Notably, depression and mental illness in general are a cornerstone to these archetypes as well. However, so is compassion, creativity, pure love, healing, and clear-vision. During this time, humans have been walking the fine-line between these worlds. Possibly feeling both incredibly inspired and overwhelmed by the interconnectedness of human-kind.
Ancient Heart Beat
Traditions and the ancient past marks where Pluto in Capricorn enters the stage. Capricorn is largely pigeonholed as being interested in climbing the proverbial mountain, gaining financial riches, etc. However, Capricorn is deeply interested in tradition, the shoulders that humanity stands upon, legacy and the like. Capricorn holds the ancients, the ancestors and anything that has passed the test of time to be honorable. The Capricorn archetype can be attributed to a Shamanic figure who is embedded in tradition, discipline, ritual, perseverance and nature as a means of connecting to the wisdom of the ancestors as well as the spiritual realm in general.
Pluto is known for being the lord of the underworld. But what does that actually mean? The underworld has an abyss-like depth to it, visual representations are not sufficient for Pluto because the eyes tend to be superficial when journeying into these depths. For Pluto, a gut feeling is child’s-play, Pluto wants a soul-feeling, to come in contact with the ultimate Truth. Pluto is the psychic-sense that each human has access to, one that many fear, or may take advantage of. It is no surprise that at the time of Pluto in Capricorn, modern society turned to the sacred traditions of the past.
Pluto in a Saturn-ruled sign, specifically Capricorn, emphasizes the importance of hard work. Putting in the time and effort, the blood-sweat-and-tears is central to Capricorn’s orientation. From Capricorn’s perspective, humans incarnated to transform karma, so no messing around, get to work! In this case, working hand-in-hand with Neptune in Pisces, this largely manifested as embarking upon sometimes grueling and even frightening experiences as part of a healing process and spiritual deepening.
It should be stated that this current Spiritual Revolution has sparked a financial industry that makes upwards of $3.6 billion dollars per year (as of 2023). Alongside the popularity and the commercial / industrial nature of the Spiritual Revolution, acculturation has become a major problem. This is part of the shadow side of Pluto in Capricorn, the capitalistic money industry taking advantage of wisdom traditions. And through exploitation, potentially minimizing the real “worth” of said traditions. In the search for the sacred, is it accessible in the modern world? Is this a realistic partnership?
Alongside the ever-present potential of acculturation, many individuals within the Spiritual Revolution industry have often become false-spiritual leaders. Leaders who have, on varying levels, gained power and recognition through their charisma and manipulated those who put their trust in them. While this has always been a persistent shadow within all spiritual and healing communities, there has been both a notable exposure of these crimes as well as a growing number of false spiritual leaders. It is possible that the damage that has been done at this time will begin to emerge in the coming years.
Throughout their respective journey through these signs : Neptune in Pisces and Pluto in Capricorn, the planets have been in a flowing and supportive Sextile to one another. Each one has been cheering on the work that the other has been accomplishing in their sign and elaborating upon it where appropriate. This joint-effort has led to an entirely new spiritual environment. A Spiritual Revolution that has impacted modern society in both positive and negative ways.
Weaving the Symbols
An example of music weaves together the Neptune in Pisces and Pluto in Capricorn influences that influenced the Spiritual Revolution. Most prominently known as Medicine Music, this unique genre initially found its inspiration from plant medicine ceremonies (namely ayahuasca). However, this music is commonly used in most of the other spiritual mediums mentioned above - where applicable.
The Medicine music neatly ties together the mystical, otherworldly theme of Neptune in Pisces, including angelic lyrics geared towards compassionate love, quiet and healing. Pluto in Capricorn contributes the haunting beats and repetitions and plunges the listener deep into the earth, deep into one’s self. The result is a musical experience where the listener can be transported into a ceremonial trance-like state.
In many ways, Pluto in Capricorn provides a grounding and rich landscape for curious and nebulous Neptune in Pisces' to embody its larger-than-life ideal spiritual experience. If Neptune in Pisces is a dense and mystical fog, Pluto in Capricorn is the dramatic mountains (peaks and deep, deep valleys) that Neptune in Pisces can nest into. The landscape where the subtle water molecules can play and explore within.
Pluto in Capricorn provides a never ending depth, allowing for connection with the potentially shadowy spiritual realm. This landscape meets the ever-changing needs and desires for Neptune in Pisces. Pisces can become bored easily or need the room to pivot, and the abyss nature of Pluto in Capricorn says that "there is no depth that you cannot reach." Simultaneously, the spiritual “heights” that one can reach is also limitless.
What Will the Future Hold?
As Pluto recently ended its time in Capricorn and is at the very beginning of 20 years in Aquarius and Neptune will soon fully ingress into Aries, what will happen to this Spiritual Revolution? Is it strong enough to maintain momentum and continue to grow and evolve? Or will it petter out, and linger like a dream?
The upcoming Saturn-Neptune Conjunction in Aries could rearrange this movement, possibly addressing some of the shadow elements of the past decade. Spiritual-bypassing, addiction, social fears, disillusion, misinformation, manipulation, confusion and disappointment could all be up for discussion.
However, it is also possible that the Spiritual Revolution that humans are still so entranced by could be the vehicle that takes them into the digital age. Maybe it was necessary to be slightly intoxicated and disembodied in order to make this next big leap in consciousness. Humans quite simply are really bad at change. In a year or three humanity could wake up from this dream and find themselves in a real-life version of the Jetsons. Let’s just hope that humanity doesn’t lose its compassion and “humanness” along the way. And, possibly more importantly, that humanity hasn’t been largely taken advantage of while in an alternate state.
Maybe connecting with the roots of humanity and with nature, via ancestral work and other traditional practices was necessary before humans could embark upon this next big step into the future (as 2025 settles in). In order to remember and maintain the meaning of what it means to be human, this could have been a crucial step in the process.
If the near future really does hold the sweeping changes that are anticipated - due to technology and possibly increased involvement with alternate life forms (and so much more that is currently unfathomable) - than this past decade could have loosened up many peoples “logical” connection to life-on-earth. Involvement in meditation, yoga, mindfulness, sound healing and psychedelics are known to re-wire the mind, change the pathways in the brain. This neuro-plasticity, could be central to preparing humanity for this next step. Although not everyone has been onboard with the Spiritual Revolution at hand, maybe enough have participated that they can stand at the helm of the future.
Conclusion
Stepping into 2025 is like boarding a warp-speed train with no indication of the final destination. As per the plan, so much is unknown. Yet, astrology can act as a powerful tool to understand the times at hand.
Why was this past decade (and even farther back) arranged the way that it was? What lessons can be learned? And what needs to be packed onto this future-train as tools for the great change?
Nothing happens without reason - there is no waste in this precious earth-school.
So much Love. Ohm Shanti. Namaste. Lisa.
